arduous character so much so that the Indian Guards and Warders

are compelled to retire from the service owing to ill health

and to the beat of your Petitioners' knowledge no Indian Guard

or Warder has remained in the service long enough to entitle him

to a pension.

The staff of Indian Guards and Warders at Victoria Gaol is

diminishing and the vacancies cannot be filled owing to the

unpopularity of the service.

7. Your Petitioners consider that in view of the circumstances

above atated your Petitioners have reason to be dissatisfied

with their position in the service of the Government.

Your Petitioners therefore humbly pray

that Your Excellency may be pleased to

take Your Petitioners' case into

consideration with a view to relief

being afforded to your Petitioners both

by a shortening of their term of ser-

vice and by the grant of exchange

compensation.
